Desert Sun 3/24 – Former COD Superintendent/President ‘seriously considering’ run for Board of Trustees

Former College of the Desert Superintendent/President Joel Kinnamon is “seriously considering” a run this fall for the college’s Board of Trustees.

Kinnamon said if he were to run, he’d most likely declare his candidacy in Trustee Area 4, which includes Rancho Mirage, most of Palm Desert and Indian Wells, and is currently represented by Aurora Wilson.

“A number of faculty, staff, administrators, business owners and elected officials have asked me if I would consider running,” Kinnamon told The Desert Sun. “And, I am seriously considering it, but I have not officially announced anything.”

Kinnamon said he will make his decision before the academic year concludes May 27. Candidate filing for board of trustee races typically opens during the summer.

Kinnamon said he is concerned that “conversation” has turned away from student services and shifted toward other issues. Those issues include legal questions related to oversight, transparency and the management of bond funds.
