Construction on the long-awaited College of the Desert Palm Springs campus is set to begin in November with a groundbreaking ceremony.
The planned event will begin the last chapter of an extended effort to bring a new addition of the community college to an empty lot in central Palm Springs that used to contain a shopping mall. Advocates have consistently pushed for the new facility, saying it will benefit learners across the western Coachella Valley.
“It’s huge,” Palm Springs Mayor Jeffrey Bernstein said. “I am extremely excited. This has been basically 20 years in the making, and to see this become a reality.”
