College of the Desert has relaunched its superintendent/president search after the initial effort was canceled due to a reported breach of confidentiality by “one or more members of the presidential search committee.”

The cancellation occurred last month, roughly a week before the semifinalist candidates were set to be interviewed. On Friday, the board of trustees unanimously approved, in consultation with the firm leading the search for COD’s next leader, the formal structure of the search committees for the relaunch.

The committee will consist of 19 voting members, including full-time and part-time faculty, classified and confidential professionals, student representatives and representatives from COD’s committees and affiliates, such as the COD Foundation and Alumni Association. The main change is that members previously appointed to the now-canceled search will not be eligible for reappointment to “avoid preconceived bias,” said Diana Galindo, the vice president of human resources and employee relations.
